A Rare Tour Opportunity for One Social Media Savvy Supporter
In honor of the 67th anniversary of the Big U's record-breaking maiden voyage, we're rechristening July 2019 as Blue Riband Month. All month long, we'll be celebrating the unforgettable early days of this magnificent vessel — the highlight of which will be a tour open exclusively to former passengers, crew, and family members (as well as their guests).
On Saturday, July 20, from 9:00am to 11:00am, we'll be hosting a special, limited-access tour of the SS United States, where we will belatedly commemorate the 68th anniversary of the Big U winning the coveted Blue Riband.
While the July 20 tour is intended to give former passengers, crew, and their families a chance to reconnect with the ship, we'd also like to extend the opportunity for one additional SS United States fan (and their guest) to join this special, limited tour.
In order to be eligible, all you need to do is:
Create a Facebook post, tweet, or Instagram post explaining why the SS United States means so much to you.
Use the hashtag #whyilovetheunitedstates.
Winning entries must be public posts — read: searchable and viewable to the general public and not protected or private — made between June 29, 2019 and July 12, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. EST. On July 13, 2019, the Conservancy will select our favorite entry and notify the winner via direct message or social media tag.
*Public access to the SS United States is highly restricted. Please be advised that all tour participants must be at least 18 years of age and sign waivers. The tour involves extensive walking, including a climb up a narrow spiral staircase. Also, since having been stripped down to her bare structural essentials, the ship poses numerous tripping hazards. Finally, because the ship is docked at a working pier, the Conservancy must submit identification credentials to pier security in advance for each person who will be accessing the pier and boarding the ship.
